/ Contest – Oasis Landscaping

The Green Room
For the green room we at oasis landscaping decided to make the central focus of our planters a dwarf spruce. We chose this because we believe that it really represents the urban forest idea. These slow growing evergreen shrubs are found very often in urbanized areas and do quite well and accent these areas immensely. We found that the hosts that we used in the planters grow lush and bright. They fill in quite nicely. The ivy that we used was grown in Canada and also gives the planters a lush look. We finished the planters off with natural cedar mulch which is Eco-friendly and ties in well with all our chosen plants.

The Atrium Hot Spot
For the atrium hot spot Jeff and myself chose to pick a focal point of the planter that really pops when you look at it. We thought that a rose mallow hibiscus was just the right plant. It sizzles! The flowers bloom mid to late summer which is perfect for the planter. We used dwarf black mondo grass which we found had a different look then most grasses and can be considered hip and trendy. We planted sedum rupestre (Angelina) in between the hibiscus because it beautifully compliments vibrant flowers. This plant is very easy to maintain and thrives in hot, dry locations. Some natural cedar mulch to finish it off and there you have our atrium hot spot planter!

The Oasis
Our oasis planters were a lot of fun to do especially because we are oasis landscaping. We started with dwarf fountain grass which we found very eye catching and a perfect main plant in our planter. We added a few sweet potato vines as they are ideal cascading from planters. On the outside edges of the planter we added pentas (new look mix) to add a touch of contrast with the small white clusters of starry flowers. We used triple mix in all of our planters and all of our plants were grown in Canada.
