/ Live Green Planter Box Challenge Contest

During Celebrate Yonge 150 planter boxes were crafted by the Local 27 Carpenters' Union to separate our new pedestrian spaces from the vehicle lanes on Yonge Street. The Live Green Planter Box Challenge was an invitation to landscaping professionals from all over Ontario to build themed floral arrangements filling 86 of the planter boxes.

Over 20 landscapers accepted the challenge (thanks to Landscape Ontario spreading the word) and have created beautiful plantings that are now showcased throughout our event area. Creating between two and 10 landscaped creations, each contestant has interpreted a pre-assigned theme from one of the following event areas: The Oasis, The Funway, Main Street, The Atrium Hot Spot, The Red Carpet and The Green Room.

A panel of four judges decided who best interpreted their assigned theme on Friday, August 17, with bonus points being awarded for environmentally friendly plants, materials and practices. The winner was announced at a special VIP Celebrate Yonge event at Massey Tower on Thursday, August 23.
